The only bi-national stage of the circuit, the Itaipu Ironman 70.3 Brazil Paraguay at 27 in August, offers athletes the opportunity to pass during the competition in southern Brazil, in Foz do Iguaçu and the central part of Paraguay in Hernandarias, being in one of the destinations most popular tourist attractions in the region - the Itaipu Power Plant - one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World.
Now in its second bi-national edition, it will select the best ranked athletes for the Tennessee worldcup in the United States.
In this edition, there is a new category, the relay, for teams formed by two or three athletes. The challenge has 1,9 km of swimming, 90,1 km of cycling and 21,1 km of running. Another change will occur in the starts, which will leave every five minutes, by age groups. That is, the test starts at 9h30 and the last platoon has output to 9h45.
The start of the race is scheduled for 9h30 (Brazilian time), in Hernandárias, on the Paraguayan side of Itaipu. The arrival takes place on the Brazilian side of the plant, already in Foz do Iguaçu. Up to 1,000 athletes are expected at the event. The first binational stage of the Ironman, in Itaipu, was in August of 2015, with almost thousand people, of 15 countries.
This year, the test has confirmed athletes from 18 countries, which shows its importance within the calendar. Athletes from Argentina, Armenia, Barbados, Belize, Belarus, Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, Pakistan, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Sweden and Uruguay will be present.
