The airline Azul will operate two new daily flights between Foz do Iguaçu and Curitiba, starting in July. Gol, meanwhile, is analyzing the date for the resumption of the connection between Foz and the capital, which should occur between July and August.
The companies' decision was the result of intense negotiations with representatives of the Integrated Management of Tourism in Foz do Iguaçu. "We have shown that Foz do Iguaçu has to be seen differently," explains Gilmar Piolla, superintendent of Social Communication at Itaipu, who is also vice president of the Iguaçu Fund and secretary of Codefoz.
While the movement in Brazilian airports dropped 16%, last year, the International Airport of Foz do Iguaçu had a growth of 10%. And, this year, the fall in the movement in Foz is well below that registered in other terminals.
This is what motivated Gol, for example, to start operating a new direct flight between Foz do Iguaçu and Rio de Janeiro, using Santos Dumont Airport. The other direct flight maintained by the company is to the Galeão airport.
Azul, in turn, began operating in March this year another direct flight between Foz and Campinas (SP). It is also the second link between the two cities.
