Considered one of Africa's top attractions, the falls start well on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and could not be left out of the list of 7 Natural Wonders of the planet, this is the largest waterfall in the world.

The waterfalls reach 128m high, and they meet with a 1,7 km extension canyon on the Zambezi River, which lies between the two countries.

The Victoria Falls are part of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park (Zambia) and the Victoria Falls National Park (Zimbabwe), the parks along the falls were chosen as a World Heritage Site by Unesco at 1989.

More Why the Name Victoria Falls?

The discovery of this paradise occurred in a curious way when the Scottish explorer, David Livingstone was the first European to find the cataracts in 1855. The name given to the waterfall was a tribute from David to Queen Victoria, who occupied the throne in the UK until 1901.

Although the name "Victoria Falls" has become official and internationally recognized, among the native population the waterfall is still called Mosi or Tunya (Smoke that Thunders).
